Early days…
Hannah and Richard met at a bar in Northampton in August, 2000. "On our first date, we went to Abington Park and Rick bought me an ice cream, which is always a winner," says Hannah.
It was during a visit to Boston, Massachusetts that Rick decided to pop the question. On a cold Thanksgiving weekend, while walking through the park at Boston Common, Rick bent down to feed a friendly squirrel. When Hannah looked down, the sight of him presenting her with a Tiffany ring took her by surprise. "I really wasn't expecting it, especially on Boston Common," says Hannah, who tells us all about the big day.
The venues…
With only six months to plan the wedding, finding the venue proved to be the easiest part. The village of Hambleden is so lovely and we were very lucky to get married there. Our reception was held at The Stag & Huntsman in Hambleden. We have spent quite a lot of time there since we moved to this area a little over five years ago.
Making our favours was tricky, and involved picking plums, turning them into jam, filling mini jars, and making fabric tops and labels. Getting creative and coming up with nice personal touches for our guests were the things I enjoyed most.
The dress…
I had always planned to design and make my own dress. Inspired by a mix of classic and contemporary styles, I wanted it to be elegant but also to reflect the casual ambience of our day.
For the ceremony, I made a slim-fitting gown that wasn't too figure-hugging. It had a strapless bodice and sweetheart neckline in ivory satin, embellished with floral guipure lace, pearls and Swarovski crystals. This was complemented by a sheer lace-rimmed tulle bolero. My long bias-cut skirt had a short train, also made of ivory satin. For the evening, I made a knee-length '50s-style full skirt, complete with tulle petticoat for dancing the night away.
The flowers…
My bouquet consisted of astrantia, astilbes, roses, lisianthus and rosemary, accented with a skeleton leaf collar. They typified our country garden style and colour scheme, and also had a nice vintage look. We added ivory gerberas to these flowers to decorate the tables, church pew ends, and also the church gate.
The decorative touches…
We wanted to keep things relaxed, quirky and with lots of personal touches. The décor was inspired by a country garden style, with colours ranging from vintage pink to sage green.
A marquee was set up in the beer garden of the Stag & Huntsman and we decorated it with bunting in Cath Kidston-inspired fabric and napkins, and gingham tablecloths.
The honeymoon…
For our honeymoon, we went to Peru, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. It really was a once-in-a-lifetime trip. We were based in Cusco, Peru and stayed at an Inkaterra hotel near Machu Picchu. We cruised around the Galapagos Islands on board the La Pinta yacht.
The sight of Machu Picchu after trekking all day along last part of the Inca trail, and snorkelling with sea lions in the Galapagos Islands were the highlights of the trip. The scenery is breathtaking and there's lots of fantastic photograph opportunities. It?s an experience and a trip we?ll never forget, and we would totally recommend it.
